Games! Games! Games!

The c.w.s.a group have been researching games from different cultures and generations .We have been learning exiting and challenging new games. We are also learning to complete a PMI to show plus, minus and interesting points. This helps us to analyse and to make criteria for what makes a great game. We have been using TOMTOP to help us look at all viewpoints. TOMTOP is short for Think of money, Think of people. Our next challenge is to either adapt an existing game or create our own new one!

Mask Parade Update

The CWSA art group have reached a very difficult stage in preparing for the mask parade. We are trying to find a way to attach the continents on to the wire structure that is going around our weather balloon. We are having trouble stretching the wire frame out to make it round, lots of problem solving is going on!!! Each class has almost finished their masks, some are spraying clear gloss as a final coat. Sticks are being stuck on to hold the masks and they are looking amazing! We have decided to add endangered animals because we had thought about people but not the animals that are part of our earth. We have found animals from each continent that our masks are from. They look brilliant and are shining.

Mask Parade Prep

The C.W.S.A Art group have been preparing for the Mask Parade. First we had to brainstorm about the topic and what it meant to us: One Earth - Global Creative Spirit. This seemed difficult at first but once we thought about the meaning of each word we started to have some understanding. We brainstormed what we could do and we came up with lots of ideas. Our understanding of the them was - all cultures coming together as one. We decided to make some masks from different countries and so we got to work.
Classes are buddied up so they can get to know each other and help each other. At the moment there is a lot of cutting out templates and undercoats being put on. We have learnt how to order paint and supplies and send faxes. We are starting to find out how much work it takes to organise something like this.

Photo exhibition is UP AND RUNNING!!

CWSA has recently been getting ready for the big photo exhibition! It is being held in the Enner Glynn School Library and the photos are already being put up. All the students in CWSA have taken individual photos then either printed them or edited them on the computers. We now have over 30 photos that are being put up! They're all different and are all unique. They are in different categories so it's easier to find them! And, if you want to, you can vote for your favourite photo in the library! There will be a small bin where you place your voting slips and there will be extra slips next to the voting bin. The dates where you can come and have a look are from Tuesday till Friday just before the end of Term 2. We are all trying very hard so your patience is greatly appreciated. Thanks and we hope you enjoy our photos!

Getting ready for photo exhibition

Over the past few weeks CWSA have been getting ready for our photography exhibition. We have been editing, printing, naming, laminating and mounting. This included brainstorming different names for our pictures and choosing the best one. Our exhibitoin will be in the Library and you are welcome to come and see. Everyone will have three to five photos to present which we took by ourselves. Most of them were taken when we went on our photography trip. We have enjoyed getting ready and taking our fabulous photos and hope you are able to come along and see if all of our hard work has paid off. We will let you know closer to the time the details of the exhibition.

NatureLand Enrichment report

Hi my name is Frayja and I'm going to talk to you about how I helped NatureLand Zoo. The animal I chose to make an enrichment activity for was the meerkats. We first had to study what our animals liked doing and what they eat in their natural habitats. I chose the meerkats because they are the newest animals at NatureLand. For my enrichment idea I used an old vacuum cleaner, driftwood, carrots and parsnips. Straight away they started digging at the sand to reach the food but they soon gave up and jumped on the top. They had figured out there was a lid but were challenged to open it. It was funny . The meerkats really liked it. I felt that Natureland appreciated me and the Meerkats did too. Jo, the keeper was really excited about mine so we did it last. First they were a little nervous but then they became very curious, excited and happy. I really enriched their lives!

Mask Parade Preparations

At the moment the CWSA art group have been working on the mask parade. The mask parade theme is One Earth Global Creative Spirit. We have given each class a design of a mask with a country that the mask comes from. Every class that has finished their masks have had a awesome result a lot of hard work has paid off. We have been very lucky and NIWA has given us a weather balloon which we are going to use as a globe.
